Healing and Hard Rock Candy

cinnamon-rock-candy-800x800I checked the recipe and lined up all the ingredients on the counter.  It was my first time making hard rock candy without the help of a seasoned candy maker.  My daughters and I set to work with great anticipation.  I had even bought a new candy thermometer for the occasion.  We were soon rewarded with the smell of cinnamon. With buttery fingers and the telltale sign of powdered sugar, the first batch was declared a success.

There was no stopping us now. We were on a roll. And then it happened…I picked up the candy thermometer and saw it was broken.  How did it happen? This could not be!  I had plans for that candy thermometer.  What could I do now except throw it away? I tried to make another batch of candy without it, but it just didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.

The pressure of life and the heat of battle can sometimes leave us feeling like we are beyond God ever using again.  Maybe we feel like we have blown it too many times, or we just feel worn out.

   John 10:10

New King James Version (NKJV)

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Satan wants to destroy us and use us to tear each other down.  He hates who we are in Christ and what God wants to do in and through us.  The Christian life is hard, but the victory is already ours through Jesus. We have the right as born again believers to tell the enemy to back off and not let him trespass in our lives.

Unlike the candy thermometer, God does not throw us away when we are broken.  When we allow Him to work in us He will bring us to a place of healing and restoration.  Are we willing to be used by Him?
